Join me, Dr. Jessica Tartaro – Intimacy Coach, Mom, & Community Member – for an afternoon of building our capacity to stay present, connected and regulated (as in, able to breathe!) in the face of conflict.
Why this class? With the elections approaching and the political swirl cooking most of us into a daily froth, relationships are suffering. The words – “If you vote for so and so, I cannot be your friend” – is tragically becoming more and more common.
Just yesterday I overheard a 5-year old ask her playmate, “Are you going to vote for Trump?” True story. Even our littles are noticing. No one is untouched by this charged and divisive conversation.
Yet at the same time, our intimate relationships are the most important factor of our quality of life. We need one another for our most basic well-being. How do we protect the closeness of our romantic relationships, our family connections and our dearest friendships while also staying true to ourselves?
I believe the answer includes thoughtful communication COMBINED WITH helping the body make friends with the discomfort of uncomfortable conversations. Because uncomfortable conversations are what we need to keep having if we are to keep growing our communities into the next era of important social and political change.
In the face of discomfort in relationship, what happens for you? For most people, it’s a very physical experience. Your heart can start beating a little faster, your hands can get sweaty, your face might redden. And then your thoughts can get very, very scrambled! Which makes it nearly impossible to find words that will connect you rather than just make things worse.
As a relationship coach, I spend a lot of my time teaching couples the kind of calming and communication strategies that will help their bodies relax and their hearts open. It’s good, hard work. I look forward to sharing more with our community.
IN THIS WORKSHOP WE WILL:
– Normalize how common conflict is across all our lives
– Introduce conflict as an essential element of intimacy (what?!!)
– Discuss the ways that our bodies respond to conflict
– Introduce the concept of nervous system regulation
– Explore tools for grounding and regulating inside of a charged conversation
– Sample communication strategies for finding connection during conflict
– Practice grounding while engaging in conscious communication
IN THIS WORKSHOP WE WILL NOT:
– Debate politics or the presidential race
– Attempt to convince other people of what we do or do not believe in
– Transform your relationship to conflict in one fell swoop (sorry!)
THIS COURSE IS FOR YOU IF:
– You get overwhelmed, frozen, combative or otherwise discombobulated in the face of conflict
– You worry that you are the only one who struggles with this
– You handle conflict pretty well and want to get stronger
– Your relationships and/or your community connection have suffered because of conflict poorly handled or not handled at all
– You know it’s possible to do better and you want to try
– You realize that the fabric of our communities is at stake and you wish to be an agent of healing and change
WHAT YOU CAN HOPE TO GET OUT OF THIS EVENT:
- A feeling of solidarity and not aloneness around your struggles with conflict
- An expansion of compassion for yourself and for why this is so hard
- A deepening of your capacity to stay embodied even when you feel challenged
- A greater feeling of trust in yourself for entering challenging conversations
- Tools for creating bridges where there may be disconnection in your relationships
- A network of other practitioners to support your practice of staying calm in conflict
I am both someone who teaches the skills for conflict resolution AS WELL AS someone who has ongoing conflict in my life with both friends and family. It’s true! I teach this class not because I am perfect at this process but because I am deeply committed to getting better at tending and mending relationships that have ruptured and want to work on this together.
This is the fourth class on conflict that I have taught in 2024. Thank you to my previous students for helping me grow and evolve this curriculum.

On October 20th, we will explore together how to help our physical bodies stay calm when tensions arise in situations that matter to us, in order to take care of the fabric of our lives, our connections to others. I hope you will join us!
“The quality of your life ultimately depends on the quality of your relationships . . . which are basically a reflection of your sense of decency, your ability to think of others, your generosity.”
